    • Interventions for students: if a student doesn't log in to the course during first week, there is outreach to them, if they haven't posted by the first Sunday of the course, they are dropped from the class. Students can drop during first 5 days and can receive a 100% refund.

    • Analytics: They have a CRM: customer relationship management system. They get stats on that. They have a marketing and analytics department that reviews stats from CRM. They have a focus on predictive analytics, so you can measure student engagement to predict what their success will be. If a student logs in the first day, their success rate predictor goes up 40% and other predictors.

Why create a Virtual College?
  • Broaden access to education because there is an unmet need for learning in our state. Most colleges are overenrolled and cannot meet all of the need. SCC is not overenrolled. Read one state legislator's perspectiveon this and suggested solution for WA to accept WGU credits. Editorial on this. This could make current online learning in WA's community college system irrelevant.
  • SCC has an enrollment problem and a small geographic district. Online enrollments outside of the district are a viable area of growth for SCC. Currently, much of that market is being served by expensive, for-profit online institutions (see editorial on this).
